Details

This certainly isn’t the fun part, but there are certain administrative details that you need to be clear on before you travel to some of these areas.

Passports

Passports are now required for entry into the British Virgin Islands.  On some of the other Caribbean islands, for example St. Maarten and Antigua, a birth certificate and picture ID are sufficient.  Rather than try to learn the requirements on each island, it is best to have your passport ready and you are safe in any of the locations in which we charter.

Additionally, the US now requires the captain of crewed charter yachts entering the US Virgin Islands to notify Homeland Security in advance with the passport information of all guests onboard, another reason to have your passport up to date.

Fishing Permits

In the British Virgin Islands, it is illegal for non-British Virgin Islanders to remove any marine organism from BVI waters without a recreational permit.  A temporary fishing permit may be obtained at a cost of $35.00 from:

Department of Conservation and Fisheries
The Quastisky Building
P.O. Box 3323
Road Town, Tortola
Tel (284) 494-5682

Cruising Permits

In BVI, cruising permits are $2.00 per person per day.  In some cases the charter boat includes it in the fee, so you should inquire about the circumstances for the boat you choose.
