Miami Miami is the logical jumping off point for the Bahamas or the Keys, but it is worth spending a few days in this interesting city. Miami has become one of America’s most international cities and with a rich cultural mix, the shopping and dining are superb. People watching on South Beach has become a favorite pastime of residents and tourists alike. Not quite a secret, but not well known except to residents, Biscayne Bay offers beautiful protected sailing with Miami’s downtown as a stunning backdrop. The Florida Keys Whatever your taste, the Florida Keys has something for every individual, couple and family. The keys have become a popular destination for Americans looking for a tropical vacation without leaving their own country. Each island is special in its own way, and arriving by boat is an entirely different experience from doing the same in a car. Key West, also known as the Conch Republic is the Southernmost Point in the continental U.S. It’s full of characters and sometimes an open mind is required. You will never forget the beautiful sunsets you will see here. Lots to see and do in the Florida Keys, water sports, diving, dining, dancing on Duval Street, visiting the Hemingway House and shopping till you have to dinghy back to your yacht! West Coast Florida Unknown to most people, the west coast of Florida offers spectacular cruising from Tarpon Springs to Ft. Myers. Sarasota Bay, Tampa Bay, Terra Ceia Island, Egmont Key, Fort Dade, Anna Maria Island and Cortez Beach are just a few of the beautiful places to visit while yachting. There are many tropical, peaceful coves to discover, endless restaurants and beach bars to visit. One of the best -kept secrets is the Sand Dollar Bar on Anna Maria Island. Lunch can easily turn into a leisurely afternoon as you relax on an outdoor patio with the Gulf only a stone’s throw away. |
Chartering in Florida is obviously convenient in terms of travel time. The people and customs are familiar, and there is no need to adjust to “island time” where everything takes longer than you expect. On the other hand, most people want to get away from the familiar when on a vacation. For sailing, the winds are not as consistent as in the Islands, and for divers, the water visibility not quite as spectacular, but there is definitely a more sophisticated scene on shore.
