These are boats that are exclusively engine driven, and in the charter business they range from forty footers to mega yachts up to 300 feet in length. For any given length boat, they tend to have more interior space and home-like accommodations than a sailboat. They also tend to be more expensive to charter than a sailboat, primarily because of the costs to operate them.
Power boats have a number of advantages other than living accommodations. They can go faster so that they can get to a popular anchorage before the sailboats, and that speed allows them to get more done in a day such as an extra snorkeling stop before anchoring for the evening. You are up higher off the water in a power boat so you get a more expansive view, and generally, but not always, they carry more water toys for fun when you get to your anchorage.
As in most things, there are trade offs with power boats. The charter fee is usually higher, and with some boats the fee is not exactly all-inclusive as with sailboats. Some boats limit the amount of motoring time included in the fee, and the charterer pays for hours over that amount. Also, with some very large motor yachts, the custom is to charge as they do in other parts of the world which is to charge extra for all running expenses of the yacht and for some of the guests provisions. Our database has a breakdown on the fees for all yachts we represent.
