Traditional sailboats, or monohulls are what most people think of when sailing is mentioned. Due to their long relatively narrow shape, they have a very sea kindly motion when under sail. Because they tend to have more wood trim on both the inside and outside, and because they have more of a cocoon-like feeling down below, this type of craft tends to remind people of a more romantic, bygone era.
A traditional sailboat does heel under sail. Due to the shape of the hull, as the wind presses against the sails, the boat sails at an angle, leaning to one side. On a chartered yacht, the crew will seek to minimize this motion by sail handling. It isn’t an unpleasant sensation, just something to get used to. To some, this is why they want to be on a sailboat, others take a less charitable view. It is purely a matter of personal taste and what you feel comfortable with.
